Having moved to the West End recently, I've resigned myself to having to walk down Robson at peak tourist shopping hours from time to time. Everyone stopping on a dime without looking around them first, clogging up the entire sidewalk. Fine, that's life, I can cope.

But what I can't cope with was what I saw on Saturday afternoon: two people RIDING BICYCLES ON THE FREAKIN' ROBSON SIDEWALK at 3 in the afternoon. Of course they couldn't ride terribly fast, meaning that they were having to swerve erratically to keep from falling over, meaning that even more people had to dive out of the way of these idiots.

I know we're not a tough town like NY or Chicago where the rules of city navigation are well understood and breaking them results in harsh recrimination. I get it, we're the left coast, we're laid back, we're slack. But riding a bike down the most crowded sidewalk in the fucking city?

Downtown streets are not the Seawall. Some of us live here. Some of us work here. Some of us would be fully capable of navigating busy city streets with calm and ease were it not for your flagrant ratfuckery. Whoever you two were, I hope you bailed after crashing into a 24 Hours box, had to pay damages to the bike rental shop, and eventually learn not to treat cities you visit like your own private playground.

I used to stay entirely off robson during tourist season. It was just so much easier.

I'd be tempted to assist "fate' and jam something in the wheels if I thought I could get away with it. What fuckery.

Bikers in Vancouver... tsk. I don't know if it's just because there are so many of them that it seems like more of them don't follow road rules properly or it's because any idiot can get a bike and hop on, but bikers around here rarely give a crap about others, whether they are pedestrians or motorists. I've seen so many near misses at stop signs when they plow right through even though THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO FOLLOW MOTORIST RULES and stop.

I almost got hit by a bike while on my scooter (or maybe my scooter was going to hit her) the other day when a car waved me through but the biker behind him manoeuvred out of the line.
